Welcome to Our Year 5 Online Learning Experience!

Year 5 is an exciting year where students deepen their understanding of Maths and English concepts, preparing them for more advanced learning in the future. Our program is aligned with the UK National Curriculum, providing an engaging and comprehensive educational experience.


Maths Lessons:

  1. Place Value and Rounding: Students will work with numbers up to 1,000,000, learning to round numbers to the nearest 10, 100, 1,000, 10,000, or 100,000, and understanding the value of each digit in six-digit numbers.

  2. Advanced Addition and Subtraction: Lessons will focus on adding and subtracting larger numbers using formal written methods, alongside improving speed and accuracy in mental arithmetic.

  3. Multiplication and Division Mastery: Students will solidify their knowledge of all times tables up to 12 x 12 and solve multi-step word problems involving multiplication and division.

  4. Fractions, Decimals, and Percentages: Students will learn to compare, order, and simplify fractions, convert between fractions, decimals, and percentages, and solve problems involving these concepts.

  5. Geometry and Measurement: Lessons will focus on identifying 3D shapes, calculating volume, perimeter, and area of composite shapes, and understanding angles in different geometric contexts.

  6. Statistics and Data Handling: Students will interpret and create bar charts, line graphs, and pie charts, developing a deeper understanding of how data is represented and analysed.

English Lessons:

  1. Spelling, Punctuation, and Grammar: Students will master more complex spelling rules, punctuation marks, and grammar concepts, including relative clauses, modal verbs, and cohesive devices for writing.

  2. Creative and Persuasive Writing: Lessons will encourage students to write creatively, focusing on structure, vocabulary, and persuasive techniques to improve their written expression.

  3. Reading Comprehension and Analysis: Students will read a variety of texts, honing their skills to infer meaning, analyse themes, and understand characters' perspectives and motivations.

  4. Poetry and Figurative Language: Students will explore figurative language through poetry and prose, developing their ability to recognize and use metaphors, similes, and personification.

  5. Drama and Performance: Students will create and perform short plays, helping them build confidence, collaboration skills, and the ability to interpret scripts effectively.
